Use of MSN gateway causes hidden roster?

Recently switching to TKabber from Exodus, and having some strange roster issues.

It appears as though none of my MSN contact show up until they have changed their status (i.e. gone away or returned). I have held conversations with offline MSN contacts. Exodus does show these contacts as being online. Any idea as to what may be causing this?
